New Message From Baldur’s Gate
I need to tell you about a game you probably think isn’t your vibe: Baldur’s Gate 3.
I know, it sounds like a super intense Dungeons & Dragons, combat-heavy fantasy game (and it is if you want it to be). But hear me out! It surprised me in the best way, and I genuinely think you’d love it.
You get to create your character, everything from appearance to backstory, and a nice tip: if you’re on PC, you can mod it to your heart’s content. But what really pulled me in was the storytelling. The world feels alive. Everyone you meet reacts to what you do, the conversations feel authentic, and every choice and character feels important. It’s like living inside an interactive fantasy novel.
Practically everything is able to be customized and I do mean everything.
You can go as slow as you want. Wander, explore, get lost in conversations, ignore the main quest for hours if you want. And the game lets you do that without punishing you. It wants you to take your time.
The music? Gorgeous. And the art is stunning. More grounded in reality than "cute," but it makes the world feel magical. Honestly, I didn’t expect to love the combat, but once I got into it, it felt great. It can be very strategic but I found it to be intuitive so the strategy wasn’t overwhelming. I originally wanted my partner do all the fighting while I just explored and talked to people, but I ended up enjoying all aspects.
Look for Alfira, its worth it, trust me.
A word of warning: some of the companion storylines get really heavy, especially later in the game. So go at your own pace, and skip stuff if it feels like too much. It’s okay to protect your headspace, plus there are plenty of ways to learn the lore without having to play it out.
I think you’ll connect with this game from the relationships to the world building. It's the coziest dive into fantasy you didn’t know you needed.
I actually made a video talking through all this—why it surprised me, what made it feel cozy, and how I ended up completely hooked. If you wanna see what it looks like in motion you can do that here.
Let me know if you ever wanna try it, I’d love to hear how your play through turns out!
